Are You Making It Easy to Connect?

A smile and common courtesy make it far easier for people to connect with you. The smile may be heard as you write or communicate online. Of course, your profile picture should show a smile, too. It’s the friendly nature of your style in every respect that will earn a greater number of interviews, prospective clients and/or followings.

My Story

Today, I noticed an article speaking to scheduling phone calls with prospective clients. There are several software applications making this efficient and easy for everyone. Options are shown for the prospect to select their preferred date and time. The best part is the selected date and time will download to your mobile phone.

Later in the day, I noticed messages on Facebook between two people where the communication was anything but easy. In fact, if I were the recipient, I wouldn’t have moved forward.

Easy and Stress-Free

If you want the next new client, appointment or the job waiting to be filled, you are the one who should take the initiative. Similar to the apps, make it very easy for the other person to agree to an appointment by providing a range of dates and times. And then suggest they select one, or if they prefer to suggest alternate times to do so. Lastly, offer to initiate the call.

During your down time, think back to past interactions. Are there areas in which you may improve the “make it easy” state of mind? Reflect on other experiences where you were impressed by the conversation and ease of doing business. What stood out most? Consider adapting that style to your way of conducting business.

  1. Meet at the other person’s convenience
  2. Observe the time allotted
  3. Should more time be required, then ask permission to continue
  4. Ask if you covered everything needed or if more information is required
  5. Should more information be required, get specifics
  6. Get the buy-ins that you are the type of person they wish to work with and that your service is of interest
  7. Ask if other members of the team will be involved with the decision making
  8. Offer to have a meeting with everyone in attendance so that all questions may be answered at the same time.
  9. Always say thank you – for the meeting(s), introductions, time spent…
  10. Get a firm return date on the calendar before you end the meeting.
