Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  Are You Open to Possibility?

Ever since I can remember, my philosophy has always been ‘anything is possible.’ As I began to hear the words, ‘You can’t,’ I would always ask, ‘Why not?”

My Story

Today a questionnaire was provided from a radio station for a pre-interview. One question that stood out asked, “Do you do anything different from most others?” I replied with one word, “Everything!”

In the business world, it is to our benefit to be proud of our differences. It helps us to stand out from the crowd, distinguish our personal brand, and have others remember us. The second part of being different is to embrace possibility wherever and whenever possible. Most people do not.

The benefit of showcasing genuine enthusiasm for new ideas encourages deeper dialogues and increased conversations. Whereas those who dismiss new ideas go about the ‘same old,’ those who welcome new ideas are presented with unlimited possibilities, and more intriguing requests to connect.

Give every opportunity a warm welcome.

LinkedIn is one of the favorite places to connect. When invitations arrive, I always take the time to review the person’s profile first. I look for synergy in some capacity to begin the conversation as this is another form of seeking out a possibility.

Just as with sales, the percentage for a great connection versus merely connecting is small, but when we receive the right one, it’s time to celebrate. Being open to possibility is the key to transforming possibility into fact.

My announcement regarding the Smooth Sale Community brought attention from admired companies and entrepreneurs. It’s exciting to see where the collaborative efforts will take us and how together we may improve the status of each other and the members involved. The possibility is limitless.

Your Story

As the weekend approaches, consider your level of willingness to give the unknown a try. It’s not for everyone. But, it’s important for you to recognize where you stand the next time a surprise possibility arises.

When new ideas come your way, is your tendency to:

  • Immediately dismiss the offer
  • Investigate the pros and cons
  • Thoughtfully consider the opportunities that appear to match your interests?

Should you be one who immediately dismisses something new, take the time to reflect if in the past you overlooked an opportunity. One good measure is to ask yourself if you will be worse off by declining should the opportunity produce excellent results. Your answer may alter your decisions in the future.

It’s a balancing act between gaining the facts and using your intuition to make the better decision on which way to proceed. The care and time you take to make the decision will save you much time and aggravation as you are more likely to avoid the wrong decision.

Sales Tips
  1. Qualify and match new ideas with your priorities and desires.
  2. Research the opportunities to make improved decisions.
  3. Become familiar with the people behind the project.
  4. Question the offering party if others have taken part and what their results have been.
  5. Request to speak with people who already agreed to move forward.
  6. Prepare questions ahead of time for those already involved.
  7. Weigh all perspectives to find the one that best matches your thought.
  8. Ask trusted friends their thought should indecision still be yours.
  9. Make your final decision.
  10. Celebrate success wherever the total sum of decisions take you.
