Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Sales Tip #678

Qualify Connections for Best Results

Lusia meets some man with a gold medal

On your renewed effort to reconnect with those you encountered in the past, I encourage you to consider those with whom you had a jovial conversation and just truly admired or enjoyed speaking with in the past.  It is the synergy that should be sought in order to find the better qualified matches.  Those who land on this list will ultimately produce the better results.  Whether you are seeking clients, opportunity or a job interview, the process is the same.

Reconnecting with those you enjoy is similar to getting together with old friends. You will find the conversation lively and joyful.  After exchanging the pleasantries and updates, determine if there is room to collaborate on a new project.  Do you each know of others whom you may appropriately introduce, and are the ideas coming to light feasible?

Every once in a while an idea may be expressed that sounds good but after 24 hours, you realize it needs to be shelved.  Then there are those ideas that were shelved for a year or two but now, due to the progress that was made, your renewed friendship is in a position to revitalize the original plan. More importantly, whatever is proposed, be in integrity with your goals and how you do business.

Upon going through all of these steps to produce the highly qualified collaborative partner and project, you will be enjoying the Smooth Sale!

Have fun reconnecting and building business!

 tumpkins

Most people dread having to pick the phone up to make new business calls or generate new business in any way, shape or form.  It doesn't have to be painful.  In fact, business development can actually be fun.

My favorite method is to review old email that was saved.  When a long time has passed since we last communicated, I indicate so in my first sentence.  "It's been a long time and I was thinking of you…"  From there you can easily expand upon updating and finding ways to help one another.

When the email is personal and people read you have been thinking about them and are wanting to reconnect, particularly if you want to explore helping one another, it's about a 100% response rate that they will say Yes!  Some of the covnersations may not be exciting but it's the few that produce wonderful new opportunity.

Just this week I helped a long-time friend solve a business problem, had a conversation with another where our business doesn't match at this point but he was happy to connect, and I Skyped with someone abroad and with whom I have much in common.  We are exploring further collaboration.

Whether you are seeking work or new business, reconnecting with those from your past is a wonderful way to create new possibility.  The nice thing about it is it is low-key and friendly, plus when you do find the better match, it's always a Smooth Sale!

Persistence Gets You to Goal

So sorry...

Have you ever felt as if a construction crew was required on your behalf?  Experiencing detours on job interviews, sales or just in developing business can be very frustrating to say the least.  But persistence is the name of the game.

In sales, we were taught a "no" means one step closer to a "yes".  As you become more proficient, your odds for gaining a sale increase dramatically from the stated 10%.  Learning from errors or what went wrong mechanically will eventually get you to where you need to be in order to launch foward.

I admit, there are times when it feels as if giving up would be a good thing.  However, giving up isn't in my vocabulary and I just can't do it.  So I persist through trial and error as well as seek help to get past the tough spots.  Each time valuable lessons have been learned and advancement then seems swift.

Moving forward with a positive mindset and determination will get you on the path of the Smooth Sale!

Targeting Your Audience Interests

Point the way to the steel wool

Knowing what interests your audience is vital for growing your business. Likewise, if your audience is hiring managers, your next job depends upon the researched knowledge.  How do you find it?

Nowadays it is far easier to determine the stronger interets of those to whom we wish to sell.  All of our postings whether articles, blogs, tweets or almost anywhere else, will receive "likes", "shares" and comments.  The ones receiving the most interaction are obviously where we should spend more time on creating further product, services and content.  Facebook went as far as to put an "insights" button on our fan pages for us to discover where the most interaction took place.

The marketing research today takes little time.  At a glance we can tell where our strongest pull lies.  When we pay attention and do something with it, that's when we are able to more quickly build our brand and put together a more effective branding effort.  In the effort include relationship building with those responding to you and you will make more sales.  In fact they will become a Smooth Sale!

Turn rejection into celebration

Year of the water dragon

A friend and I were talking about how rejection motivates us to move further and more quickly in our quest while most people take weeks to get moving again.

We both have the sales gene and recognize that the more no's you receive, the closer you get to a Yes!  In fact, on average, we were told in the early years of sales training, it takes approximately 10 attempts to find the right possibility for a sale or job.

One out of 10 attempts leads to a 10% success rate.  However, as you tweak and improve upon delivery, your success rate will increase.  Therefore it is wise to pay attention to some of the success principles:

1.  "No" very often is a request for more information.  Find out why it is being said.

2.  Job interviews – ask why the other candidate was chosen; while it's difficult to hear, the information may be helpful later

3.  Ask for constructive feedback whether a meeting for a sale or job to find what would improve your chance for success the next time

Everything you undertake requires practice.  Before you are accepted or rejected, line up more possibilities.  The momentum keeps the excitement up.  Even more important, as you interview better on each new appointment, your delivery becomes superb enabling you to ask for a higher salary.

There is always a silver lining to the dark cloud.  When you believe in it, you will find the Smooth Sale!

Attention to details generates bigger opportunity

Santa Clara arrest paper work

Most likely everone feels overwhelm at times.  It is during these times we tend to forget the details or wish we could for those who know better.  Interviewing for a job, you may be asked to provide a referral, a hard fact in reference to a project you spoke of, or you will need to respond to something that was said to clarify meaning.  In business, we need to clarify at all times and remain on top of our game.  Here are some tips to help you make this happen.:

1.  Make note as to when and how the other party would like you to follow up

2.  Review all conversation mentally and by notes

3.  Maintain a running task list in prioritized order

4.  Block time slots for special projects

5.  Clean up email

6.  Once per week straighten up your desk

7. Document your successes and other notable categories

8. Always work toward your long term goal

This short list should help to make your business or interviewing more efficient.  When this is in place, it's easier to pay careful attention to what is being said and not said so that you may more accurately respond in kind.  This type of communication will more quickly land you in that desired job or the clientele you were seeking.  It will seemingly be a very Smooth Sale!

Collaboration done correctly creates increased results

Laura answers questions

An introduction from a colleague or finding someone of interest online may well lead into a wonderful conversation.  Recognizing you have much in common and complement one another well, you may then be asked to collaborate.  Sometimes the request is immediate and other times years may go by while you both get your career or business firmly planted and grown. Once established, many more will ask if you would like to partner.

My thesis is collaborative requests are a sign that you have arrived at a very good place in your business or career.  You have proved yourself and have achieved a level of success admired by others.  And this is the sticking point to which you should pay serious attention.

When requests come your way to give up your current job or to partner in business, consider the following:

- The learning curve and expense involved

- Simplicity in participating

- Is this beneficial for all parties?

Sometimes we are flattered when requests come, announcing to friends, "Can you believe they asked me to partner?"

However, we need to remind ourselves that we obviously bring something to the table they need and want.  We are on the same level.  This is where it becomes wise to seriously consider the questions outlined above and others that your conscience is suggesting in the quiet hours.

When you take the time to review all of the details from both sides of the equation, you will find the better job advancements or collaborations.  And when you do, you will be far more likely to enjoy the ride and the Smooth Sale!

Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Sales Tip #671

Keep Your Brand In Tact for All Occasions

 42-15398351

It was a family celebration and I asked a trusted family member what to wear - Tailored red suit or dressy black?

The red suit had always been my power suit for when I was determined to be granted a special sale or the job I desired.  Although I had a hunch it was a "black dress code" I was delighted when I heard, "wear red".

On the day of the event, I wore the red suit and a big smile for a number of reasons.

- There wre family members in attendance whom I hadn't seen in many years.  They could easily find me.

- Due to the enthusiastic greentings, I was reminded that red is my brand and should remain loyal to the color.

- Those who didn't know me were curious enough to came over producing additional friendly chats.

Although color and dress code are an unusual example, remaining true to your personal brand works best in all regards.  No matter what's "in" at the time of business, interviewing or personal matters, your brand speaks loud and clear.  Everyone will know what to expect and recognize how they may count on you.

Once your brand is clearly recognized, you are ready for the next step of branding or promoting your brand far and wide. You can imagine the importance for seeking work and expanding reach among potential clients.  Remaining true to your brand makes for a very Smooth Sale!

Attract the Right Job or Clientele: Sales Tip #659

To Be or Not To BE!

Can you dig it?

There are so many pros and cons to whether or not one should seek employment or begin an entrepreneurship.  How does one make the decision?

Should need for immediate money be a factor, then employment wins without question.  Otherwise, here are some ideas to consider when making this jump from one venue to the other, we will begin with Entrepreneurship:

  • Are you able to multi-task and willing to learn what you do not already know?
  • Do you have a team of people on whom you may rely for help and support?
  • Are you a risk taker?
  • Do you have a burning desire to accomplish something that is not possible in the employment arena?
  • Are you a motivated person working to make your desires a reality?

If you are an entrepreneur considering the Working World once again:

  • Are you having many sleepless nights with worry?
  • Are the working days too long because you do most of the work yourself?
  • Will life be less complicated with a steady paycheck?
  • Will you enjoy more freedom by working?
  • Have you enjoyed accomplishments in your business?
  • Are you at a  place in your business where you will have no regret by moving back to employment?

In the past, I have counseled people not to quit unless it's on their own terms.  In this case, examining your priorities, needs and deep down desires should come before any final decision.  Only you will know what is right for you.  Once your decision is made, do not second guess yourself but know that what you chose is the right choice at the right time.

Whichever path you take whether to further build business or interview, do so whole-heartedly to enjoy the Smooth Sale!

Jumping Hurdles Lands You In A Better Spot

Meeting Lille Metropole

We all face darker moments as we journey through life whether for career or business.  Some know deep down they will get through while others second guess themselves moving forward tentatively, and the third group will simply give up.  Extenuating circumstances that no one else knows will affect our decision on how to proceed.

In terms of giving up, my questions to you are:

- Are you happy with what you have achieved to date?

- Has the excitement and motivation to continue left you?

- Will you truly be on a better path by quitting and are you certain you will not live with regret?

Second guessing usually comes from negative people surrounding us and self-doubt.  Should you be able to move past this, consider your best route for getting past the tough times.  What are the sticking points and how may you best pass them by?  To whom may you turn for help and reassurance?

Create a plan of action to jump over your hurdles; confer with peers, take classes, and/or read to get the creative ideas flowing.  Should you be uncomfortable in your employment, make plans to interview to change jobs.  Entrepreneurs and job seekers alike are all long distance runners competing for the race of their life.

Should you desire to get to the first finish line a little more quickly, consider joining the incredible Motivational Marathon – it's bound to make you more determined than ever and enjoying the Smooth Sale!

Relationship building and selling, plus perseverances will get you to goal – Motivation is all that's required!
