How To Sell Yourself On Interviews

Most people today act in desperation to take “any” job. Even worse, they interview as a victim, solely focused on themselves. They are missing the vision of finding a job that will provide both career growth and satisfaction. It’s possible to have both – you just need to know the how-to techniques, and how to leave the stress behind!

Elinor advises “The interview is not about you, it’s about how well you will solve the company’s problems and fit in with the company culture. This is the only way you will get a job you actually enjoy!”  Not only will you learn how-to execute what you need to know, but you will also hear true stories of interviews that went badly as well as those that succeeded. They are real-world and entertaining to quickly grasp the strategies.

The introductory call will speak to the difficulties candidates face today and what you can do to take corrective action and put your best foot forward in the New Year.  We first discuss how you have come to this point, your current mindset and how to shift gears into  alleviating obstacles.  We end with an understanding of what managers look for in candidates and beginning relationship selling strategies in preparation of  your next interview.

Part #1

This class discusses how to best and consistently build your brand.   Time management, laser goal setting with accelerators, beginning sales terminology and planning strategies are shared to increase your interviewing possibilities and enhance your outcome.

Part #2

You will be walked through the process of mentally preparing for the interview, how to make a great first impression and carry that through the interview for a lasting impression.  First learn how to begin the interview on the right footing with this one specific question.  We will discuss using intuition, the power of observation and using all of your sensory skills while interviewing to determine whether you truly want the job.  To be safe, we will share specific questions to ask and how to turn objections into positive outcomes.  Knowing how to conduct a two-way interview, advance the conversation and build relationships will help place you in the leading spot.

Part #3

In this last class, you will learn how to ask a trial close question to get the buy-in from those interviewing you.  In other words,  these questions give you the knowledge of whether you are on track for receiving an offer.  Several of these will lead to the concluding question of will you be the one to get HIRED!

However the final step is to negotiate the best terms possible.  We finish this series with how to use a non-negotiating strategy to negotiate your best offer and how to negotiate the best package. Even the timid loves these strategies as they are non-threatening and very easy to implement.  It becomes a Smooth Sale!

Elinor Stutz, acclaimed author of Nice Girls DO get the Sale, and her new and just published book Hired! spoke during the Career Development Day for MBA students at San Francisco State University.  Her talk was enthusiastically received by the students as she delved into the secrets of newest book Hired!.  Ms. Stutz has built on her formidable knowledge of sales success and has refocused her sales principles on how to best sell oneself in the job market.  With the job market today so difficult, Ms. Stutz brought hope to the students in that they can be successful in their job searches if they know the principles of selling themselves, their skills, their value propositions, and their unique and individual abilities to employers.  We have been working with Elinor Stutz for the past several years and we are planning future engagements with her in the coming semesters.  I highly recommend her.  She will add an important success factor to any program.

in our evaluation survey, your presentation to our job club members (on December 8, of last year) received rave reviews. Survey respondents rated your presentation a five (for over-excellence). Evaluations are categorized as follows: Topic (or subject), Speaker, Presentation, and Relevance.

Being awarded a "straight" five is a rare occurrence with our members! What you had to say about using sales techniques to sell yourself at interviews resonated for many of us, including me, who is a firm believer in projecting a confident and *friendly" image when meeting a potential employer (and his/her staff). In particular what you said about the importance of showing a genuine interest in the company and the job – and remembering to say "thank-you!" to all concerned after a job interview – are factors not sufficiently stressed by many career coaches.  We all like to be acknowledged and be appreciated.

Thank you again for speaking to our group. Consider a return engagement sometime in the not too distant future.
